Fireworks

In Netherlands, its illegal to burst fireworks without permission unlike in India where we burst crackers at the slightest of opportunity. In fact the day when Mumbai was attacked on 26 November 2008, a marriage was happening close to us. I don’t know if the people knew of it but fireworks were used. The newly weds must have taken lots of curses from the already tensed city.

There is one day when crackers are bursted in abundance. The day is New Years day. The whole of Netherlands echoes with the sound of fireworks.

In 2005, I was on Dam Square welcoming new year with thousand of screaming Netherlanders. In 2006, I was with the family welcoming the New year with them. We burst fireworks and saw the sky lit with beautiful firework.
