100 – The Birth of a Son

The 100th One

My manager took us on a boat ride in Spakenberg, Netherlands when he was released from the project. We were having a lot of fun and clicking photos by the dozens when my colleague and Dutch friend, Jolanda (Pronounced as Yolanda) was posing in front of the camera. She was pregnant and was standing with her hands on her back and showing off her tummy. I asked to pose against the sun in the background which she did giggling wildly. I clicked the above with the sun in the background.

This is the luckiest photo because it was clicked with seconds without a retake and no planned posing involved. It was a spur of the moment photo which just came out to be good.

I called it “The Birth of a Son”. She asked me what if its a girl? I said we will keep it a secret then

The next day she came to my table and said that she liked the photo very much and never thought it could turn out so good. She was thinking of framing it. I have framed it myself and it is hanging on the wall of my home.

Before Jolanda went on a holiday, I said to her “All the best, take care and come back with a boy”

So on 27th June 2006, four weeks before the due date, Jolanda gave birth to a baby boy. She was still in hospital and with tubes and needles in her body and recovering from labor and still she called office to give us the news. She asked me to be informed specially that it indeed was a boy. I feel so happy. The boy was named William.
