169 – The Boy who saved Holland

Netherlands was born of reclaimed land from the sea. The Dutch in fact are experts in reclaiming land and manage to keep the Sea at bay with a complex system of dykes and canals.

And so the story goes that long time ago, a small boy saw water seeping through a hole in the dyke in Haarlem. As every child knows the importance of Dyke for the existence of Holland. So he did best he could by plugging the hole of the dyke with his finger.

Thus came alive the legend of the boy who saved Holland
