Gaumukh is the origin of River Bhagirathi which eventually merges with two more rivers to become River Ganga. Gaumukh named because of the face resembling a cow’s mouth is 18 kilometers from Gangotri. Situated in the Gangotri National Park, Ganga originates near Gaumukh from a fast receding glacier.
The only way till Gaumukh is walking 18 kilometers across the mountains. At a height of more than 4000 meters, oxygen is less and the journey tiring.
I made the journey but could not complete it. I underestimated the mountains and had to come back.
One day I will complete it!
